Me: The Trans-Mountain pipeline is bad because it encroaches on First Nations’ sovereignty and threatens to ruin their land and drinking water.

Centrist pundit, very smart: The First Nations affected make up a tiny proportion of Canada’s population. It is not proper for the economic interests of an entire country to be held hostage by what is effectively a special-interest group of a few thousand people. Yes, it sucks for them, but you need to look at the bigger picture.

Me: The bigger picture? Like how the pipeline will also result in significant upstream increases of the greenhouse gas emissions that are rapidly dooming human civilization through catastrophic climate change?

Centrist: Not that big.
