    Complete agreement on the Kanye love, but Pusha fucking kills his verse, too. Almost upstages Kanye. Almost.

    Pusha’s verse is hot, but it lacks that thing I talked about with Kanye the other day where he is boasting and self critical at the same time. The lyrics aren’t boastful in this track but the delivery and the king of the douchebags mentality he carries in it serve the same function. 

    True. Hence the “Almost.” But Pusha does come close to that same self-awareness with the last line “I’m just young, rich and tasteless.”  

    Kanye is extremely self-critical. In a certain sense, he’s using his records as a sort of coping mechanism to deal with a lot of personal shit.

    It’s as if some angsty teenager had his secret poetry journal turned into a movie. And I mean that in a completely positive way. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is away for us to get a glimpse into the psyche of a very troubled person, who is nevertheless able to create something beautiful.

    I think that’s kind of the reason a lot of people didn’t like 808s and Heartbreak. It’s kind of like Plastic Ono Band. It’s such an emotionally naked record that it’s almost off-putting. We’re just not used to someone being that brutally honest about himself.
