The real reason for the season:

political opinions, pop culture ephemera, philosophical ramblings, pictures of pretty things
More on the Naked She-Pope of Carnegie Mellon…
We should also carefully consider what it means to deem the nude female body “offensive.” Western culture is often termed a “rape culture” – and rightfully so. The misogyny integral to our understanding of bodies, sexualities, and genders devalues anything womanly, anything feminine. Women’s bodies, nude or clothed, are viewed as sexual objects and non-intelligent targets of criticism. Even in Western art history, “the nude” – a desexualized, matronly, non-threatening female form – has been the preferred representation of the naked woman. Given this history, many people are frightened and shocked when they see an independent, thinking, powerful woman in the nude. Such an image tells us that women own their own bodies, not men, and that women have the ability to be the one who desires – not just the desired object. By deeming this student’s appearance “offensive”, you invoke a misogynistic, sex-negative, body-negative argument that continues a long, sad pattern of treating women as objects of shame, instead of intelligent humans in their own right.
Propaganda - “Precious Puritans”
As if God only spoke to white boys with epic beards- you know Jesus didn’t really look like them paintings, that was just Michelangelo’s boyfriend?
All they [Hobby Lobby] are asking for is a narrow exemption from the law that says they don’t have to provide drugs they believe cause abortions,” Hobby Lobby attorney Kyle Duncan told CNN affiliate KFOR before Sotomayor’s ruling. “Our basic point is the government can’t put a corporation in the position of choosing between its faith and following the law.
Hobby Lobby: The First Martyr Under Obamacare?
Following that same argument, Hobby Lobby is arguing that I should be exempt from paying any federal taxes to be used by the Defense Department or CIA killing of the innocent in drone attacks, or by the Justice Department or my state to lock up brown people in disproportionate numbers to white people for the same crimes, right? I’d also like a refund of all the Federal tax money that was used to pay for the invasion, occupation, and destruction of Vietnam and Iraq, the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, the entire Department of Homeland Security, all foreign military bases, and 40 years of party primary elections. Then we can work on ending all tax-financed subsidies of any kind to private enterprise, and start making broadcast media pay for their share of public bandwith.
I have serious moral objections to my money paying for all of the above, but I can’t seem to find anyone willing to take me seriously. I guess I’m just not Christian enough for them.

Probably not. Don’t you know that the validity of your religion is directly correlated with your net worth? Only billionaire CEOs can afford to have crises of conscience nowadays.
The real reason for the season:
Meet Bryan Fischer, your Republican shithead of the day.
Fischer is Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association. He also seems to be illiterate. I mean, how exactly does one reconcile this racist, xenophobic bullshit with the teachings of the Bible? I mean… it’s pretty damn explicit about this stuff (Deuteronomy 10:17-19, Leviticus 19:33-34, and Exodus 22:21, just to pick a few random verses).
For those of you who can’t watch the video, here’s a transcript:
Hispanics are not Democrats— don’t vote Democrat because of immigration. That’s not the main reason they vote for Democrats. It’s not— it doesn’t have anything to do with lax immigration policy; it has to do with the fact that they are socialists by nature. They come from Mexico, which is a socialist country. They want big government intervention, they want big government goodies. It’s primarily about that. Now they want open borders - make no mistake - because they’ve got family and friends that they want to come up and be able to benefit from the plunder of the wealth of the United States, just as they have been able to do.
Republicans can pander all they want to Hispanics, to immigrants, and it will not work. There is no way on Earth you’re going to get them to leave the Democratic party. It’s one of the reasons why we’ve got to clamp down on immigration.
You know, sometimes I am struck by what a Christian I seem to be and how odd that is since it’s not really an aspiration or anything.
That’s one of the things that pisses me off the most about ideologues like this douchenozzle. There’s a lot of great stuff to be found in the Christian tradition that I think a lot of people who aren’t necessarily religious or who don’t even believe in God would be open to… not because it would save their souls or convert them to Christianity, but because it would give them another way of looking at the world and exploring the depth of the human experience.
But that’s not what people see when they see Christianity. Instead, they see guys like this who completely miss all of the good stuff (take care of the poor, fight against injustice, be thankful and amazed at the wonder of existence) and latch on to things that are either a) taken out of context (proscriptions against homosexuality, etc.), b) obviously metaphorical (the multiple creation accounts, Armageddon) or c) don’t even appear in the Scriptures at all (Hell). It’s frustrating.
